Welcome to Friday edition of the daily fantasy hockey morning coffee. The week ends with a small two-game slate to dig through for our daily fantasy hockey needs.

Friday’s Slate:

New Jersey Devils @ Edmonton Oilers (Edmonton, -160, 5.5 over/under)
Nashville Predators @ Anaheim Ducks (even, 5 over/under)

I keep waiting for the Edmonton Oilers to break out and break out on a consistent basis. I thought we finally saw a glimpse of an offense headed in the right direction with a five goal effort against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 26. But the Oilers have scored a total of just four goals over their past two games. Of course Connor McDavid is in play every time the Oilers are in action and he did factor in both of Edmonton’s goals against Pittsburgh on Nov. 1 — but I’m finding them harder and harder to trust. Still, they are a team I will continue to ride in tournaments. Per Corsica, Edmonton has a CF% of 56.27 (tops in the NHL) and an xGF/60 of 2.94 (second in the NHL). Additionally, they lead the league in SCF/60 with 36.48 and have a HDCF/60 of 14.49 — third-highest in the NHL. But as nice as those numbers are it has translated into a league-worst 2.18 goals for per game. As I mentioned on Wednesday, If the dam does burst and Edmonton starts to find the back of the net we want to be out in front of the masses instead of chasing after the points.

New Jersey has been a much more consistent team and they are currently riding a three-game winning streak. On the season New Jersey has scored a league fifth-best 3.64 goals for per game and have a power play that has clicked at a league fifth-best 26.8 percent. Edmonton has allowed a league ninth-worst 3.27 goals against per game this season, have a team save percentage of just .894 and have allowed a leauge-worst 13 power play goals against. While our advanced stats support Edmonton, our real-life results scream New Jersey — I’ll provide snapshots and team stacks for both. One number that screams out to me is New Jersey’s SCA/60 of 33.27 — that’s the most scoring chances against per 60 minutes in the NHL. As noted, Edmonton has the highest SCF/60 at 36.48. Edmonton should see a lot of scoring chances tonight and it might be the night to load up on Edmonton skaters.
