Welcome to the Monday morning edition of the daily fantasy hockey morning coffee. Today we only have a two-game slate to work with to try to build our DFS lineups.

Tonight’s Slate

Dallas Stars @ Carolina Hurricanes (Carolina, -125, 5.5 over/under) — this opened at a 6 over/under
St. Louis Blues @ Calgary Flames (Even, 5.5 over/under)

The team I have the most interest in tonight for cash is the St. Louis Blues. On the season St. Louis has averaged 3.11 goals for, have won three of their last four games and have a first line that has been magnificent — though the team did get lit up for five goals against the New York Islanders on Nov. 11.

The numbers for the Taransenko/Schenn/Schwartz line are of course elite — in just over 131 minutes skating together the trio has a CF/60 of 73.22, SF/60 of 41.38, GF/60 of 4.55, SCF/60 of 41.38, HDCF/60 of 10.01. Tarasenko, and likely on a a two-game slate his entire line will the chalk as a stack. But if we pay down at other areas tonight we might be able to differenitate ourselves just enough in tournaments.

Obviously there is a drop off when we go the Steen/Sobotka/Statsny line with a CF/60 of 59.88, a GA/60 3.78, a SCA/60 of 31.29 and a HDCA/60 of 16.18. The SCA/60 and HDCA/60 make the Calgary line of Frolik/Backlund/Tkachuk intriguing in tournaments tonight as they have been controlling the puck with a CF/60 of 69.12 and a SCF/60 of 33.08. Backlund and Tkachuk also skate together on the Calgary second power play unit so a tournament stack of Backlund/Tkachuk/Hamilton/Giordano is something I’m considering rolling with. Think of the St. Louis first line as your cash game staple and the Calgary second line and defenseman pair as a tournament strategy.
