Welcome to the Monday edition of the Daily Fantasy Hockey Morning Coffee. We start the week with another very small slate of just two games to work with when constructing our lineups.
New York Rangers @ Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, -130, 5.5 over/under)
Arizona Coyotes @ Calgary Flames (Calgary, -190, 5.5 over/under)
Tonight I want to start my roster construction with the Calgary Flames. In their past four games Calgary has scored 14 goals and have scored on 4-of-11 power play chances. Arizona, on the other hand, has allowed three power play goals on 14 chances and have allowed 14 goals in just four games. On the road this season Arizona has allowed a league second-worst 3.56 goals per game and have only have a penalty kill rate of 73.8 percent on the road — the third-worst PK rate in the NHL.
Of course we can attack Arizona in multiple ways. Per Corsica, on the road in 5v5 situations Arizona has the highest xGF/60 in the league at 3.00. While Calgary’s xGF/60 in those situations is not all that impressive at 2.37 — we can still feel comfortable attacking Arizona with a Calgary team that has been in a nice little groove winning four of their last five games — and scoring at least three goals in each game over that time. (These numbers do represent what the Flames were prior to their bye week). Sean Monahan has been hot so I want to start with that first line when thinking of stacks tonight:
Johnny Gaudreau $7.3K (11G, 24A, 12 PPP, 127 SOG)
Sean Monahan $6.9K (19G, 16A, 12 PPP, 138 SOG)
Troy Brouwer $4.5K (9G, 10A, 9 PPP, 56 SOG)
and the with the Calgary power play clicking at a nice rate I want to drop down, for tournament purposes, to their second power play unit of Matthew Tkachuk/Mikael Backlund/Michael Frolik/Mark Giordano/Dougie Hamilton. This gives us exposure to Calgary’s second even strength line as well.
An interesting note while looking at some stats:
