Welcome to the Friday edition of the Daily Fantasy Hockey Mornig Coffee. We end the week with a four-game slate to work with for our daily fantasy hockey needs.
Tonight’s Slate:
Detroit Red Wings @ Carolina Hurricanes (Carolina, -165, 5.5 over/under)
Washington Capitals @ Pittsburgh Penguins (Pittsburgh, -150, 5.5 over/under)
San Jose Sharks @ Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, -130, 5.5 over/under)
Vegas Golden Knights @ Minnesota Wild (Minnesota, -130, 5.5 over/under)
The best real life game tonight is the Washington Capitals vs. The Pittsburgh Penguins and we will certainly grab players from that game. But we have some interesting options in the other three games to take us away from what will likely be a popular Washington vs. Pittsburgh game across all formats tonight.
First let’s consider that case of the Red Wings on the road against the Hurricanes. Over the course of their past 10 road games the Detroit Red Wings have a SCA/60 of 35.65 — third-worst in the NHL. Detroit’s HDCA/60 of 12.9 over their past 10 road games is the fifth-worst in the NHL. Per Corsica, Detroit has an xGA/60 of 2.63 in 5v5 situations on the road — sixth-worst in the league.
Carolina has averaged a respectable 30.42 SCF/60 over their past 10 game home games. And, per Corsica, Carolina has an xGF/60 in 5v5 situations at home of 2.95 — second-highest in the NHL. Carolina beat Detroit on the road 3-1 on Jan. 20. One asterik on this is that Carolina is on the second night of a back-to-back while Detroit was able to rest last night. But Carolina intrigues me from a tournament-only perspective tonight.
