Maybe I am crazy. Maybe I am addicted. Or maybe I just find actual enjoyment in throwing together a fantasy lineup for whatever big event is in front of me. If, nothing else, it gives some value to what is otherwise a meaningless game.

That’s right. I couldn’t help myself and I made a lineup for the Pro Bowl. It was a necessity if I wanted to also have some fantasy impact for the Super Bowl – I didn’t, but it was a package deal – and both games now have something extra to follow.

Unfortunately, the results of the Pro Bowl are so random that it is not worth the effort to try to break down anything statistically. Thankfully, I love storylines and, in lieu of doing an actual game flow analysis, I made decisions based on the underlying motives.

The Super Bowl would have been a bit easier to break down, but I have not yet finalized my column with my pick for the game, nor would I be comfortable trying to pinpoint an actual breakdown for a single sixty-minute affair – I always preach that ‘sets of games’ are more prone to give positive results compared to picking just one. Of course, if there are any matchup benefits, I will note them, as well.

Quarterback

Tom Brady – Simply put, couldn’t you picture the snarky smile on Tom Brady’s face as he hoists the trophy for Most Valuable Player in the Super Bowl after accepting the honor from commissioner Roger Goodell? It’s a made-for-reality-television moment, and we get to watch it unfold live. For the price, I wanted to own a Pro Bowl quarterback – Drew Brees, ideally – but the motivation for Brady to compile statistics and secure the esteemed honor was too good to ignore.
