For the second consecutive week, a surprisingly high number of ‘redemption’ plays are in the works. Unlike last week, however, Week 5 is filled with individuals seeking rebounds from comparatively slow starts. For some, Week 5 acts as the beginning of the metaphorical second quarter, while another – specifically one wide receiver from New England – gets an undeniable boost from the return of his team’s starting quarterback.

As a general trend, running backs are in short supply on Sunday. This is likely due to matchups, where some of the game’s best backs are pitted against above-average run defenses. While they may carry a larger-than-normal amount of risk, there are, of course, bargains in the backfield. Conversely, our list of wide receivers was relatively difficult to trim and savings at the position were rare.

Based on our expected Week 5 DFS game flow analysis performed earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.

Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 5 Plays:

Quarterback

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Let’s start this column out with a bang. Ryan Fitzpatrick, the quarterback with ten interceptions in four games – nine in his last two – is one of our top targets at the quarterback position on Sunday. With the only legitimate reason to avoid Fitzpatrick coming from his recent poor stretch, every other factor is actually in his favor. His matchup with the Steelers is excellent, as he faces a defense that has allowed the third-most yards in the league, while he will almost certainly be throwing often if his Jets fall behind in Pittsburgh.

Jameis Winston – Continuing the trend of quarterbacks looking to rebound from horrible performances, we target Jameis Winston as a high risk-reward option for a Primetime slate. Tampa Bay’s quarterback faces a Panthers defense that has allowed the fifth-most net-yards-per-pass-attempt, and will will either be throwing from behind or shouldering the offense as both Doug Martin and Charles Sims are injured. Especially with Aaron Rodgers on the slate, Winston is an excellent contrarian play for Primetime tournaments.
