With the amount of unknowns throughout the league on Opening Day, our list of targets was predictably large. One week later, we are far more equipped to hone in on a few key players, especially with the amount of potential ‘trap’ games in Week 2. Such matchups – where the perceived ‘weaker’ team is expected to outperform – allows for prime buying opportunities and high fantasy upside.

Based on our expected Week 2 DFS game flow analysis performed earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.

Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 2 Plays:

Quarterback

Marcus Mariota – While Marcus Mariota will not be asked to repeat the performance of Andrew Luck on Opening Day, he does face the same defense that was shredded by the Colts’ aerial attack just one week ago. Downgrading Mariota slightly in the passing attack, he gets a boost from his ability to rack up rushing yards, balancing his game nicely. In addition, the Titans appear content allowing Mariota to throw the ball near the goalline, as both of his passing touchdowns were to DeMarco Murray from inside the ten-yard line. He may not target Murray again in similar situations, but Delanie Walker – more on him, later – gives another option inside the redzone. Especially if the Titans are trailing, Mariota will be an absolute steal at the quarterback position for his surprisingly low price.

Philip Rivers – There is almost no way that the Chargers return to game action after their heartbreaking second-half collapse against a division rival and don’t try to bury the Jaguars early. After all, an 0-2 start in the AFC West – with a home loss to Jacksonville – immediately puts the season at risk, and the passing game of the Chargers is the team’s bread-and-butter. Philip Rivers will be called upon from the start, and likely won’t slow down until the game is firmly in hand. If an easy win never materializes, it is even better for Rivers’ fantasy owners, as the quarterback will simply keep throwing.
